BAU, April 21: The Tasik Biru division of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will try to recruit more members to cement its foothold in the constituency.

PDP’s Tasik Biru chairman Dato Henry Harry Jinep said strengthening the party was important to face future state elections.

According to him, the number of divisional party members now stands at 3,224 and hopes to reach 5,000 in three years’ time.

Initially, it had 3,500 members, but the numbers have dwindled in the past few years.

“It will be a big challenge for us in the next three years on what we want to have for the coming state election.

“While we want to recruit more members, we also want to further strengthen our bond with other component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to ensure that the seat (Tasik Biru) remains under GPS with PDP as the custodian,” the Tasik Biru assemblyman said.

He told reporters this after the party’ triennial general meeting (TGM) at Bau civic centre last night (April 20).

Henry was optimistic that recruiting about 1,000 new members can be achieved within a year or two, urging the party’s 10 branches to work hard.

Henry, who is Deputy Minister of Transport, also pointed out that he is the process of fulfilling the election manifesto in the constituency.

He hoped that the new office bearers, a mixture of old and new faces, will have a new vision and different approach to entice voters, particularly new voters, to support the party.

PDP’s Tasik Biru new office bearers are chairman Henry, deputy chairman Cr Paul Nohan, secretary Jeinoster Toka, deputy secretary Marthadara Michael, treasurer Michael William and deputy treasurer Cr Wendy.
