10 finalists to compete in Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 beauty pageant

KUCHING, April 21: Ten finalists will be competing in the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 beauty pageant during eighth edition of the Gawai Tematu Carnival on May 26 and 27.

According to organising chairman John Pata, in addition to winning the pageant, finalists will also have a chance to win the subsidiary titles of Miss Best Contemporary Dress, Miss Best Costume, Miss Popularity, Miss Talent, Miss Tourism and Miss Photogenic.


“Apart from the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu, there is also the Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 Competition featuring 11 finalists, and an event that was organised for the first time, the Gawea Tematu Sindok Competition 2023 with eight participants,” he told a press conference held at Kuching Waterfront, yesterday.

The programme line-up on May 26 will feature the Miss Best Contemporary Dress Competition, Miss Talent, the Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 Competition and the Gawea Tematu 2023 Sindok Competition, which starts from 7pm until 11.30pm.

He also said on May 27, starting at 7.30am, there will be with sports activities, traditional competitions such as ‘Nyilitiak Toring’ and ‘Ngituak Irau’, handicraft competitions, exhibitions from private and government agencies, including food and beverages sales, and many others.

“The Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 Competition will take place at night, as well as performances from local Bidayuh artists brought specially by WAIfm Bidayuh, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

“The special invited guest who is expected to be present that night is Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, and the highlight event is the announcement of the Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023 winners,” he added. — DayakDaily
