MIRI, Dec 5: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) secretary-general and chairman of PDP Ba’kelalan, Datuk Nelson Balang Rining, has pledged his full support for PDP’s candidate for the Ba’kelalan seat, Sam Laya, who will be flying the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) banner in the upcoming 12th Sarawak Election.

According to Balang, several potential candidates had been considered to contest under the GPS banner.

However, through careful consideration and deliberation by the top leadership of PDP and GPS, Sam Laya, a lawyer by profession, was chosen to represent GPS in Ba’kelalan in the upcoming State polls, said Balang today at the PDP operations centre for Ba’kelalan in Permyjaya.

“Therefore, I urge all the constituents in Ba’kelalan and PDP members to give Sam Laya our full cooperation and support as we face off against the incumbent.

“The Opposition has been representing the constituency for 10 years. What development had they brought to the area?”

“He (Baru Bian) was the federal minister of works in Putrajaya, yet he did nothing to help Sarawakians while he was there, especially for the Ba’kelalan constituency. He could have built roads and upgraded the infrastructure.

“Instead, he cancelled several infrastructure development projects in Sarawak. Is that how he will ‘help’ the rakyat if he wins?”

Balang added that voters by now should not be easily swayed by the empty promises made by the Opposition and should vote for GPS, who under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, have made great strides in putting Sarawak first, safeguarding Sarawak’s rights and interest.

“In terms of development, the voters should choose GPS if we want to be on par with other constituencies in Sarawak,” he concluded. ― DayakDaily
