KUCHING, Nov 24: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the rumour of Baram MP Datuk Anyi Ngau leaving the party.
Its president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said Anyi was late in returning from Baram where some parts were still inundated by floodwaters.
“So after voting, he came back to town but the weather was very bad. Then he lost his handphone. When he reached Kuching, he did not go and get a new phone because he wanted to rest for two days.
“I also looked for him and could not find him,” said Tiong when met by the media at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.
He said it was only yesterday that he managed to get hold of Anyi, and they had a drink together last night.
Certain parts of Baram, he said, are still inundated by floods and voters had to exercise their democratic rights by wading through floodwaters.
Tiong challenged the media to imagine what Anyi had gone through – being a punching bag for those suffering from floods as the latter was the candidate.
“He was the candidate, of course, he was under tremendous pressure. People scolded him and cursed him (due to the floods).
“So he just wanted to rest his mind. He relaxed and that has been why he was late to show up for one day or two,” said Tiong responding to the rumours that Anyi was leaving PDP due to his disagreement with the party’s decision to form the government with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Tiong said there were all sorts of rumours after the polling including rumours that he had “chickened out”.
He was also implicated in one of the fake news reports recently, which stated that 13 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had expressed their displeasure over GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s action “of wanting to have power in the PN (Perikatan Nasional) proposed coalition”. — DayakDaily
