KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15: The Sarawak Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 exhibition has attracted some 6,000 Sarawakian students studying at various higher education institutions (IPT) in Peninsular Malaysia who are keen to know what the State government has in store moving forward.
The PCDS exhibition was held in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2022 programme at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.
Together with the exhibition was a dialogue session where students got to ask Sarawak leaders questions.
Most students were interested in the PCDS 2030 initiative, which was introduced by the Sarawak government, as it involves six main economic sectors: manufacturing, commercial agriculture, tourism, forestry, mining, and social services.
More interestingly, the six sectors will be supported by seven variables: digital transformation, innovation, basic infrastructure, transport, utilities, renewable energy, education, and human capital development.
These student representatives raised and voiced various questions, particularly on renewable energy and digital transformation driven by data and innovation.
Among them were 20-year-old university students Claudia Ubong Luhat and Joan Isabelle.
Claudia, who is from Belaga, is currently studying Professional Accountancy at Sunway University, while Joan from Miri is doing Psychology at Taylor’s University.
“Before we came to this Lan Berambeh event, we didn’t know what plans were made by the Sarawak government.
“Today, we learned quite a bit, and they even gave us tips on how to prepare ourselves to meet the needs of Sarawak so that when we graduate, we will be able to find a job,” Joan said when met during the dialogue segment today.
Under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), the Sarawak government has allocated RM63 billion to implement the people-oriented initiative under the first phase of PCDS 2030.
Meanwhile, the dialogue session panel consists of Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) Investment Promotion Director Lester Matthew, Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) chairman Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Sarawak Business Federation and Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sarawak (ACCIS) secretary-general Dato Jonathan Chai, and Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) president and Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) vice-president Gary Ningkan. — DayakDaily
