KUCHING, March 10: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has called on the public to be on the lookout for four-year-old boy Eric Chang who has gone missing for more than two days now.
Voon pointed out that this recent missing child case also raised concerns.
“It is a great shock to learn that a four-year-old boy is missing under the care of the family’s caretaker.
“But this is not the first time that children have gone missing in Sarawak. In October 2019, a six-year-old girl Nurardiana Damia Abdullah was also reported missing,” he said in a statement today.
Voon advised parents or guardians not to leave young children in the care of maids alone and should be more attentive to children’s movement by keeping a close eye on them when bringing them out to crowded places.
“Young children too often are easy prey for traffickers. Human trafficking is active in many parts of the world and Malaysia is not an exception.
“The United Nations (UN) is very concerned about human trafficking for the purpose of slavery or forced labour, prostitution and human organs. That’s why July 30 has been designated as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness of the seriousness of human trafficking,” he added.
Voon emphasised that the government needed to come up with more programmes and campaigns to create better public awareness against human trafficking.
Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that little Eric, nicknamed Duck Duck, was last seen at Taman Riverview Lorong 2 wearing a dark blue T-shirt and black pants.
Since he went missing on March 7 at 7.42pm, his mother Dynasty Chang Kah Hui has lodged a police report at the Bintawa Police Station.
A widespread search was also conducted by the Taman Riverview Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) team around the residential areas and even to Bintawa Industrial Area, but to no avail.
Police are also investigating and actively searching for the missing boy with the involvement of the police K9 Unit. — DayakDaily
