KUCHING, June 15: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) potential candidate has called for proper maintenance of standby generator sets and safe electrical extension at the Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya which serves as a large-scale vaccination centre (PPV) in Sarawak.
The party’s potential candidate for Pending, Teo Kuang Kim who was a consultant engineer that was involved in the design and construction of the Stadium in 1988, said in order to ensure smooth implementation of vaccination programme, the service and maintenance of the Stadium must be at its tip-top conditions.
“Standby generator sets must be tested regularly and should be able to operate within 15 seconds after main incoming supply failure. This is to comply with the Fire Department requirements,” he said in a statement today.
He was voicing out his views following the recent power failure disruption that happened on June 14 at the PPV Stadium Perpaduan, which resulted in delay and great inconvenience and discomfort to the health personnel and public.
Teo noted that from the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation’s (Sesco subsequent statement, apparently the power failure was due to overloading which caused one of the switchboards to trip.
“As we know the additional electrical load on the refrigeration for the vaccines is high and therefore only qualified electricians and consultants are consulted for the extension, even on an urgent basis.
“All these essential items should be taken care of by qualified and competent personnel. We hope the Stadium Board could take this seriously,” he added.
He also urged the authorities to carry out proper planning and crowd control and advised the public not to arrive at the Stadium too early to prevent congestion.
This, he said, is also to prevent the virus from spreading further, because the current daily number of positive cases is still high.
“The number of 4,000 targeted vaccinations in this stadium is almost the capacity of the stadium itself,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
