KUCHING, Mar 28: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan calls for the parliament to convene in order to address the Covid-19 issue.

Voon in a press statement said that huge questions linger in the minds of the people concerning the powers of the prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet to source for the funds.

“From where the prime minster and his cabinet got their powers to call and to release the fund? It will set a very dangerous precedent in running a country without power sanctioned by parliament and this can destroy democracy and sanctity of parliament.

“Perhaps the government needs to urgently pass a law in parliament to get billionaires and millionaires and mega companies to cough out part of their wealth to save society and the country,” he said.

Acknowledging the danger of the Covid-19 pandemic globally, Voon said it was not known when the outbreak would cease, and Malaysia suffered weak financial health as well as lacked proper scientific and health care capability to fight the pandemic without foreign help.

According to him, during the Covid-19 attack, the government needed to look two matters: the damage to the economy caused by the disease the security measures that the country will take in fighting it.

He also suggested the government to look carefully into two matters, which is the damage to the country’s economy and also the security measures taken in fighting the pandemic.

“The RM250 billion stimulus package announced by the government has made the people feel good, but, the question is from where the money comes from? It could not be something plucked from the air to make people happy.

“The issue has to be debated in parliament and the source of the money for this package should be disclosed to the law makers and the public. We do not want a borrowed fund with high interest that would put this country into deeper financial abysses,” he added.

In addition, Voon pointed that it was pointless to announce something but at the end of the day no money could reach those who are supposed to receive them.

He said the people must know how the money could reach them because many have queried how they could apply and how long they would have to wait to receive the money from the package.

“We do not want to hear excuses from the government to avoid payment, especially, when we know very well that the government now is saddled with huge debt,” he said. —DayakDaily.
