Man ‘triggered’ after seatbelt advice at Covid-19 roadblock, challenges police but gets arrested

The suspect caught for two offences.

KANOWIT, Mar 28: A 28-year-old man is the first person here to be arrested for not adhering to the movement control order (MCO), implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19 disease.

Kanowit district police chief, DSP Tega Bilong said at about 10.45am today, two policemen on Covid-19 operation stopped a car driven by the suspect at Jalan Lukut/Penyalau.

“When told by the policemen to fasten the seat belt, the suspect told them off by saying that it was not a requirement under the movement control order,” he said.


The suspect who is from Rumah Seli, Nanga Ngungun, then alighted from the car and challenged the two policemen, saying “tangkaplah saya kalau saya salah” (arrest me if I am wrong).

“The man has been arrested for obstructing the policemen from discharging their duty and also for failing to give good reason why he was at the place when the MCO is enforced,” he added.

The case is investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duty and under Regulation 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Meanwhile, Machan assemblyman, Allen Sidi Gramong donated more than a dozen boxes of bottled and canned drinks to the Kanowit police station while they enforce the MCO.
