KUCHING, June 26: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Socialist Youth Malaysia deputy chief Wong King Wei believes Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is now “shaking on the ground”, following an announcement by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday that his party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), was considering coming to Sarawak.

In fact, the Padungan assemblyman believed PBB was now a very frightened party after the prime minister made known his plan.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) is determined to topple the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which is led by PBB, in the next state election, which is due in 2021.

“Previously, PBB tried very hard to stop Umno (United Malays National Organisation) from coming to Sarawak for one reason — to ensure PBB can exploit the state’s resources alone,” alleged Wong, who is a lawyer by profession, in a statement.

He claimed that PBB did not stop Umno for the sake of Sarawakians but for the personal benefit of their leaders and cronies.

“We are still seeing mega contracts being awarded to Barisan Nasional (now GPS) crony companies without open tender, despite the new federal government’s directive not to do so.

“We are still seeing thousands of acres of state lands alienated to a few selected companies at a meagre premium of RM300 per acre without open tender,” he claimed.

To ensure there is clean governance and transparency in the state, Wong said it was time for all four component parties of PH to join forces and topple PBB in particular and GPS in general in the next state polls.

“The intention of PH to form a new Sarawak government is to stop PBB from continuing to exploit Sarawakians. Likewise at federal level, we’ve stopped Umno from continuing to exploit us.

“We deserve to have a new Sarawak as well, after having a new Malaysia,” Wong added. — DayakDaily
