KUCHING, Sept 29: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Jepak Youth Wing has called on local constituents and Opposition parties alike to continue giving support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ahead of the Jepak by-election.

Its chief Mohamad Asraf Mohammed Tudin said during the recent Sarawak Election in 2021, the people have expressed their confidence in GPS with the victory of 76 out of 82 seats.

He opined that the confidence of the people was based on the processes, transparency, internal checks and balances and many more practiced by the GPS government.

“The strength of the GPS government has been translated into ‘success after success’ – initiatives based on the welfare and well-being of the people, rapid infrastructure development, increased Sarawak income, the return of Sarawak’s rights, new economic policies for the future of Sarawak’s children and talent development initiatives.

“That is why it is important for us to maintain this strength and stability for the sake of the children of Sarawak by fully supporting GPS.

“I also call on the Opposition in Sarawak to support GPS in order to form a strong voice in our fight for the rights of Sarawak based on the law,” he said in a statement today.

The Jepak seat became vacant following the passing of its incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip at Normah Medical Specialist Centre on Sept 15.

The polling date for the Jepak by-election has been set for Nov 4, with nomination day on Oct 21.

On Sept 21, PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has confirmed that the party will defend the seat.

Meanwhile, Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) president Dato Othman Abdillah on Sept 27, said his party is in the process of carefully evaluating possible winnable candidates to contest in the Jepak seat.

Another Opposition party, Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) will also contest in the by-election as announced by its president Lina Soo on Sept 28.

On the other hand, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak will not field a candidate in the Jepak by-election to maintain the stability of the unity government of which GPS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are a part of. — DayakDaily
