Pasai Cluster down but still retains double-digit cases from smaller districts

KUCHING, Feb 3: The daily caseload for the notorious Pasai Cluster has fallen steadily in the past six days with the outbreak in Sibu and Miri seemingly well contained following prevention measures and restrictions introduced, but the double-digit growth continued due to cases being picked up in smaller districts surrounding the division.

The Pasai Cluster registered another 49 Covid-19 cases today with small town Beluru topping the list of daily infections this time with 13 cases.


Since the Pasai Cluster outbreak on Dec 29, 2020, the total number of cases has increased to 2,050 as of today (Feb 3).

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s Covid-19 situation report revealed that there were nine other districts currently recording single-digit cases.

Kapit and Kanowit registered eight cases each, while Sibu (6), Sebauh and Dalat (5 each), Song (2) and one each in Bintulu, Miri and Lundu.

A total of 23,000 individuals have been screened whereby 20,450 were tested negative but there are still 500 awaiting for lab test results.

With a total of 12 active clusters in Sarawak, three clusters namely Tabong in Bau, Rakut in Miri and Bukit Sekubong in Sebauh continued to register new Covid-19 infections today.

Tabong Cluster recorded three new cases today to push the cluster tally to 25. A total of 180 individuals have been screened whereby 125 were negative while 30 are still awaiting lab test results.

Rakut Cluster recorded four new cases today to increase the cluster tally to 144. A total of 500 individuals have been screened whereby 356 were negative with no lab tests pending.

Bukit Sekubong Cluster registered two new cases today, thus increasing the cluster toll to 33. A total of 330 individuals have been screened whereby 288 were negative while nine are still awaiting lab test results.

The remaining nine clusters namely Bintang Daily in Meradong, Jalan Pengiran in Matu, Bedayan in Serian, Jelita and Bah Sayap in Miri as well as Indah Riang, Keranji Tabuan and Stutong in Kuching did not record any cases today.

However, under the new Bintang Daily Cluster which recorded eight Covid-19 cases so far, there are still 40 individuals still awaiting lab test results.

As for Bedayan Cluster with 17 cases registered so far, three are still awaiting lab test results; while Jelita Cluster with 55 cases recorded, 22 individuals are still awaiting lab test results.

Meanwhile, Sarawak registered three Covid-19 fatalities and 148 new Covid-19 cases today with Sibu registering 48 cases, Bintulu (15), Dalat (15), Beluru (14), Miri (12), Kapit (8), Kanowit (8), Sebauh (7), Song (7), Sri Aman (5), Bau (3) and one each in Kuching, Lundu, Tatau, Subis, Selangau and Sarikei.

This thus raised the state tally of positive cases to 4,824. – DayakDaily
