Furniture shop owner fined for breaching Covid-19 SOP

The police compounded the shop owner with an immediate fine.

SIBU, Feb 3: Another furniture shop owner was fined RM1,000 for violating Movement Control Order (MCO) for operating his business yesterday.

Also compounded in another case were three men for loitering in the town centre in the wee hours.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 5pm on Feb 2, a police team led by an officer, ASP Kushairy Bujang went to a furniture shop at Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah.


“The shop owner had defied MCO for operating the business which is not under essential service,” he said.

The 33-year old owner of the shop was brought to the central police station where he was issued with the RM1,000 compound.

On Jan 31 nine persons from seven different furniture shops were fined RM1,000 for the same offence.

Meanwhile, the police team had at about 12.25am today caught three men roaming along Jalan Channel.

“The men could not give a good reason why they were still in the town at this hour during the MCO,” he said.

The offence was committed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the Area of Infection Area) (No.2) Regulations 2021.- DayakDaily
