KUCHING, Jan 24: The Pasai Cluster in Sibu continues to spread across Sarawak with Song the latest district to be touched by its fallout.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today in a press statement said Song reported 27 Covid-19 cases linked to the Pasai Cluster.
As a result, the Song district is now a Covid-19 orange zone.
There was an increase of 135 new cases reported today related to the Pasai Cluster.
There were 42 cases reported in Sibu, Kanowit (30), Song (27), Betong (13), Subis (8), Dalat (7), Bintulu (3), Miri (3), Kapit (1) and Sarikei (1).
The Pasai Cluster in Sibu was confirmed on January 9 and its index case traced to an individual who returned to her longhouse in Sibu to attend a funeral last year.
She later tested positive for Covid-19, but not before other villagers in her longhouse also caught the illness.
The cluster has grown bigger over time and with new generations of infections, including spreading to Belaga district in Kapit, with its latest effects being confirmed in Song.
As of today, the total confirmed cases from the Pasai Cluster has increased to 1,417 cases.
A total of 13,250 individuals have undergone swabbing with 10,268 testing negative and 1,565 still awaiting laboratory test results. — DayakDaily
