KUCHING, Aug 7: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (Pas) Sarawak is prepared to face the upcoming state and even a national snap poll if it were to be called by the state and federal government.
Pas Sarawak commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said the political party is all geared up for the 12th Sarawak election (PRN12) and the possibility of the 15th General Election (GE15) in Sarawak.
“We have identified a few constituencies to contest including some traditional seats.
“For the record, the potential leaders have ‘turun padang’ to meet up with the community although we did not win any seats in the past election.
“We are confident that we will be much stronger as the central leadership is part of the federal government.
“The entry of some members especially from the Iban community showed that Pas Sarawak is well-accepted by Sarawakians,” he said in a statement today.
He disclosed that Pas Sarawak will nominate Sarawakians from various academic backgrounds which can bring the people’s aspiration to contest in the upcoming elections.
He believed the capability of local leaders from the political party to raise various issues in the mass media showed that they are working hard to serve the people.
He asserted that the political party’s service centres have become the places whereby locals came to seek solutions and complained about their problems.
With the current political development, he said Pas Sarawak is in a neutral position and there was no cooperation being discussed at the moment with other political parties.
He said in the event that there was a partnership with any local political party in facing the elections, it would be decided together with the party’s central leadership. —DayakDaily
