SIBU, Nov 28: A new political party will be set up before the 15th General Election, says one of its founders, Dato Sri Abang Aditajaya Abang Alwi today.

Speaking at a press conference after announcing his candidacy and those of two others for the 12th Sarawak election (PRN12), Aditajaya, a businessman said they would submit their application to the Registrar of Societies to register the party as Parti Barisan Rakyat.

“This is a party for the people of the State as it will fight for the rights of Sarawak. I believe, with the existence of PBR, it will further strengthen the political atmosphere in Sarawak and at the same time be able to protect the interests of the people of the State,” he said.

He claimed that a number of people had voiced their interest to join the party.

Meanwhile, Aditajaya who is a former member of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) also announced that he would be contesting as an independent candidate in the Kuala Rajang constituency.

“I had sent my resignation letter to the president of PSB on November 18 as I don’t agree with the terms and conditions imposed by the party regarding the campaign for the election,” he said.

He aid that his decision to contest in the election is to bring about change in the Kuala Rajang constituency which he claimed had many shortcomings.

“The Kuala Rajang constituency needs to change its landscape not only in terms of development but also economy and education. If possible in the future, the constituency will have an overflow of development in line with the modernity that is happening now,” he said.

Aditajaya also announced two other candidates for the election.

They are businessman Khairul Dato Ahmad for Semop and Mohd Adnan Zulkifli for Demak Laut. ā€” DayakDaily
