KUCHING, Oct 10: Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced the dissolution of 14th Parliament of Malaysia today.

Ismail Sabri made the announcement at a press conference held in Putrajaya after an audience with the King to get the latter’s consent to dissolve the Parliament yesterday afternoon.

It is an early election as the next election is only due September 2023.

Following the resolution, a general election must be called within 60 days of dissolution.

Ismail Sabri became the ninth prime minister of Malaysia in Aug 2021 following the resignation of his predecessor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Ismail Sabri who is the vice-president of United Malays National Organisation (Umno), is the first ever prime minister who is not the highest in rank in a political party or coalition.

Umno leaders have been pushing for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held before the end of the year, much to the objection of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition and other ally parties. — DayakDaily
