Para Sukma 2024: Sarawak’s badminton squad bags 3 gold medals, ends campaign in 2nd after Perak

KUCHING, Sept 27: The Sarawak contingent secured a total of three gold, one silver and four bronze medals in the para badminton events, ending their five-day campaign at the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) XXI Sarawak 2024 held at Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) Hall in BDC here today.

The three gold medals were delivered by Nurzammiezatul Syafiqqah Mohamad Zamberi in the women’s individual SH6 event, Ashley Irenaeus Jeck in the men’s individual WH2, and duo Gregory Kanyan-Nur Syazwani Shahrom in the mixed doubles SL2-SU5.

Nur Syazwani Shahrom also contributed a silver medal in the women’s individual SL4-SU5 event.

Meanwhile, the four bronze were delivered by duo Gregory Kanyan-Nik Ariffen Putit in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 event, duo Ardiles Benson-Nurzammiezatul Syafiqqah Mohamad Zamberi (mixed doubles SH6), Chan Lee Ching (women’s individual SL4-SU5) and duo Mohd Aqil Haziq Nong Chee-Chan Lee Ching (mixed doubles SL3-SU5).

Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew was present to handover the prizes to the winners at the venue earlier.

Following their victory, the Sarawak contingent was placed in second in medal standings, with Perak leading with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Penang settled in third place with one gold and two silver, followed by Sabah in fourth with one gold, one silver and two bronze. — DayakDaily
