KUCHING, June 14: Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) at its annual general meeting (AGM) held on Friday (June 13) here.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Wan Lizozman described his appreciation for his appointment and called for unity and collaboration among affiliates in the future.
With the upcoming 22nd Malaysian Games (SUKMA) to be held in Selangor next year, he also shared his commitment to ensuring Sarawak’s badminton team is well-prepared, emphasising the importance of structured development, providing support to athletes, and high-performance training.
In line with SBA’s commitment to inclusivity and continuity, Wan Lizozman confirmed that all presidents of affiliated badminton associations will continue to serve as SBA vice presidents, ensuring broad representation from across Sarawak.
He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing president, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Dato Husain, for his years of dedicated service and leadership.
Further appointments include Ting Wei Ping, who was elected unopposed as SBA deputy president, followed by Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad named as secretary and Jonathan Kho as treasurer.
Acknowledging recent challenges, Wan Lizozman stressed the need to rebuild SBA’s reputation and public trust.
“It’s time to restore SBA’s image and strengthen confidence among all stakeholders—from grassroots players and coaches to State leaders and corporate partners. We will move forward with transparency, professionalism, and purpose,” he said.
Looking ahead, he announced plans to form several key working committees focused on development, technical, tournaments, commercial matters, and other relevant areas.
These committees will be formalised at the upcoming council meeting to help drive SBA’s strategic goals. — DayakDaily
