KUCHING, July 15: The list of Sarawakian athletes participating in the 21st Para Sukma Games 2024 will be finalised on July 31.
Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah the finalisation process will include a list of athletes from other states.
“Currently, coordination for all athletes with disabilities are being carried out to classify the participating athletes categories based on their disabilities.
“The long list of athlete registration has been accepted and will be finalised on July 31 where they will be shortlisted,” she told a press conference held at Baitulmakmur Building 2 in Petra Jaya today.
Fatimah said, under the new classification system, all athletes competing will have to undergo a classification test in their respective states by the Malaysian Sport Council (MSN), unlike what has been done previously, where athletes were instructed to undergo category classification in the host state.
She also said that the new classification system would help expedite the process of categorisation for all athletes ensuring no mistakes in the athletes’ qualification requirements.
It will also reduce the hassle (for classification process) for athletes when they come over to Sarawak, and we don’t want any disqualification of athletes due to miss-classification,” she added. — DayakDaily
