KUCHING, Nov 11: Sarawakian Para Sukma athletes Ashley Ireneus Jeck, Sim Siew Ling, and Andrea Kamil received a hero’s welcome upon their arrival at Mukah Airport on Tuesday (Nov 8).
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), their arrival was welcomed by Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
Ashley won a gold medal in wheelchair badminton, Sim Swon a gold medal in doubles table tennis, and Andrea won a silver medal in chess.
A total of 148 athletes from Sarawak participated in Para Sukma XX MSN 2022 in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 1 to 6.
This time, the Sarawak contingent collected 146 medals in total by bagging 50 gold medals, finishing behind overall champion Sabah with 54 gold medals.
Sarawak was crowned the overall champion for the boccia (precision ball sport), 10-pin bowling, and powerlifting events. — DayakDaily
