JKR study on cracked water tank underway, Bintulu Hospital car park on hold

BINTULU, Nov 11: The proposed car park for Bintulu Hospital is currently on hold as the Public Works Department (JKR) is studying whether to relocate a cracked water tank occupying the project site.

Incumbent Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said, in his opinion, the damaged water tank system should be demolished and rebuilt as soon as possible as it is now a hazard.

“I said (to JKR) that they must be proactive and not reactive because there are already some cracks there. Sooner or later, the water tank needs to be demolished.

“We should not wait until there is a big crack or when the whole thing bursts; only then we react; it might turn into a disaster then.

“So, I have asked them (JKR) to conduct the study. I will follow up with them (on the study results),” he told DayakDaily in an exclusive interview at the PDP Bintulu service centre.

Once the water tank is removed, Tiong said the proposed new car park and other necessary hospital facilities could be built there.

On a related topic, he also mentioned his intention to upgrade the Bintulu Hospital and probably set up a new wing owned by the private sector.

He said he had brought this idea up to former Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, and the proposal was left hanging after the ministerial change.

“But I will not give up. I will continue to fight for it, for the Bintulu Hospital to be upgraded after the (general) election if I’m still around.

“I will try my best for it to be upgraded. In fact, I already have a list of all the shortcomings in the Bintulu Hospital,” said Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman. — DayakDaily
