KUCHING, Nov 20: The Pan Borneo Highway Redline project, spanning 136km, is set for rehabilitation alongside the near-completion of the Trans Borneo Highway, says Sarawak’s Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
As of October 2024, the Trans Borneo Highway has achieved 99.62 per cent progress, with all 25 sections open for public use except for a two-kilometre stretch in Sarikei and five kilometre-stretch in Lambir.
Meanwhile, the federal government is focusing on rehabilitating the Pan Borneo Highway Redline, a 136km dual carriageway excluded from the original upgrading project.
“For this programme (rehabilitation of Pan Borneo), funding of RM120 million has been approved for the part of the redline works, which is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2025,” said Uggah during his winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
The Redline project comprises three sections—the 4.95km stretch from Kuala Baram to the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Sungai Tujuh complex in Miri, the 54.6km stretch from CIQ Tedungan to CIQ Pandaruan in Limbang, and the 33.7km section from Lawas town to CIQ Merapok.
Currently, the Redline works in Limbang, Lawas, and Miri are in the pre-contract stage. Tendering for the Limbang and Lawas sections is expected in the first quarter of 2025, while the Miri section is scheduled for tender in the fourth quarter of the same year. — DayakDaily
