KUCHING, Feb 19: The water supply disruption in the Sarikei Division since yesterday was due to the leakage of the main pipe from Bayong Water Treatment Plant to the Round High-Level Tank.

According to Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), the leakage was due to road excavation activities and works by Pan Borneo Highway contractors.

“Although the repair work was completed by Pan Borneo (contractors), it took a little while to recover because the leak had affected the water supply system, which involved a relatively large area.

“In addition, it also resulted in unstable water pressure in some areas and the possibility of consumers receiving untreated water supply.

“While waiting for the water supply to be fully restored, the delivery of clean water supply was carried out by JBALB Sarikei Division and the contractor in the affected areas,” it said in a statement today.

Among the areas experiencing water disruption are Sare, Meruton-Merudu Road, Bayong Road, along Jakar-Selalang Junction road, Selalang Road, KJD Meradong Road, Skim B, Pakan, along Bulat Road from Sg Rusa to Sg Joh, Kesa Baron, Kesa, Onn Dian Road, Sg Garan, Friendship Road, Cola Road, and Pakan Junction.

Meanwhile, Pekan Bintangor, Sg Sian, Selidap, Bukit Papit and Lebaan areas are expected to experience low water pressure.

“We regret any inconvenience caused and greatly appreciate the high patience of the consumers.

“All the latest developments will always be informed to consumers through the Sarawak JBALB social media platform,” it said.
