SIBU, Nov 14: The Selangau Section of the Pan Borneo Highway is open to the public starting today.
An opening ceremony to commemorate the achievement was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg held near the Selangau flyover here today.
Caretaker Senior Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said the 27km-long dual carriageway road, including one flyover, is part of the two sections under Work Package Contract 8 (WPC8) from Sungai Kua Bridge to Sungai Arip Bridge.
“By upgrading the existing road from two-way single lane to two-way double lanes, it will help ease traffic flow between Sibu and Bintulu.
“In addition, residents along the stretch, namely Bandar Sibu, Selangau, Mukah, and Balingian, will also benefit from a better, more comfortable, and safer road infrastructure,” he said at the event.
The RM588 million Selangau Section project began on Nov 1, 2016, and fully opened today.
At the same time, Fadillah informed that the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is now at 89 per cent completion and is expected to be fully opened to road users by the middle of next year.
Amongst those present were Deputy Sarawak Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Caretaker Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Annuar Musa; Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Sarawak Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; and Ministry of Works (MoW) secretary-general Dato Wira Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman. — DayakDaily
