KUCHING, Jane 7: A painter was sentenced to four years of jail and one rotan stroke for physically and sexually assaulting an underage girl.
Koo Jun Hi, 63, pleaded guilty to the charge framed.
Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga sentenced him to an imprisonment of four years with one stroke of whipping and to undergo rehab counseling within his period of detention pursuant to Section 26 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act.
The judge also ordered the accused to undergo police supervision pursuant to Section 27 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act for a period of one year after the expiration of the sentence passed.
He was charged with physically and sexually assaulting a 12-year-3-month old girl by hugging her, kissing and touching her using his hands at the victim’s house, at about 2.30 pm on December 27, 2019.
He was charged under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which is punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries an imprisonment term not exceeding twenty years and liable to whipping.
According to the facts of the case, it was the victim’s mother who lodged the police report. The complainant was informed by her daughter that a man hired by the complainant’s grandmother to paint the house fence had hugged, kissed and touched her body. — DayakDaily
