Pageant participants to vie for ‘Kumang’ title at Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival 2022

SIBU, July 14: A total of nine women will be vying for the Kumang title of the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival (BDCF) 2022 on July 18 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase I.

A spokesman for the organising committee said the competition will start at 9.35pm after the official opening of the BDCF Dayak Night, which is scheduled to be officiated by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang at 7pm.

“The Kumang BDCF competition is the highlight of the night. Prior to that are performances of various Dayak ethnic cultures and singing by local artists to mark the celebrations before the Kumang participants come out to show off their styles,” he told reporters here today.


The participants are Caroline Lika Undi, 24, Forleenarica Juana Juan, 22, Selina Jagok, 18, Olivia Gundi, 22, Felicia Raymond, 24, Beinnifren Bobby, 24, Mesha Carlynie Jesse, 19 and Clarissa Rinya Setian, 18.

He revealed that the winner of the Kumang BDCF 2022 title will take home a RM2,000 cash prize with a crown, sash, trophy, hamper and flowers while the title ‘Lulong’ (runner -up) will receive RM1,500 with sash, trophy and hamper.

The second runner-up will earn the title ‘Selinggar Matahari’ as well as a cash prize of RM1,000 along with a sash, trophy and hamper.

Fourth and fifth place winners will receive a cash prize of RM500 each, along with a sash while four consolidation winners will get RM200 each.

The participants in the competition, he added, will show off their Iban ‘Ngepan’ clothes by being judged in terms of clothing, self-confidence and beauty. ā€” DayakDaily
