KUCHING, Oct 24: With the Sarawak election on the horizon, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Christopher Gira Sambang has called on Sarawakians to use it as an opportunity to evaluate the State government’s performance, the delivery of its commitments, and the service of their elected representatives.
In a statement, he said after five years under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, it is time to return the mandate to the rakyat.
“I welcome Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement that the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) will be dissolved effective Oct 26, 2026, following the conclusion of this week’s DUS sitting.
“As a PRS representative, I welcome this democratic process. It is for the rakyat to decide who should form the next government and lead Sarawak for the coming term,” he said.
Gira, who is also the assemblyman for Tamin, encouraged eligible voters, including young and first-time voters, to exercise their right to vote.
He also urged voters to carefully assess candidates and their track records, make informed decisions, and help shape Sarawak’s future.
“I urge voters to choose candidates from established parties with a proven track record of serving the people. We need a government that can manage public finances responsibly, strengthen State revenue, deliver more development, and improve the social well-being of our communities.
“Sarawak’s future is in your hands. Choose the right candidates and a government that can serve the people responsibly and lead our State forward.
“We cannot gamble with our future or that of our children and generations to come. Your decision at the ballot box will shape the Sarawak they inherit.” — DayakDaily
