KUCHING, August 7: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei surprised government officials, SK Lumba Kuda management, teachers, parents and students when he turned up for the ‘Kibar Jalur Gemilang’ ceremony earlier than expected.

The event was held at SK Lumba Kuda and Wong, as the guest-of-honour, was supposed to arrive only at 8.45am. He, however, turned up 45 minutes earlier.

“I am not a VIP, and it is not nice to make everyone, including students, wait for me. If they can come early to prepare for the event, I can also come early and join them.

“We are all of the same status. I prefer if everyone come at the same time. Not only can we mingle and get to know each other, I can use the opportunity to hear the rakyat’s voices,” explained Wong on his punctuality.

For future invites, he advised organisers, including ministry officials, to tell him the best time for him to be present so that the participants would not have to wait for him.

“Please do not make people wait for me. If your event starts at 8am, then invite me to come at 8am.”

Wong also advised officials to do away with unnecessary preparations just for the sake of “observing protocol”. — DayakDaily
