The first engine arrived at the scene — approximately 7km away — by 10.12pm, and the operation was brought under control by 10.57pm. Firefighting efforts continued through the night until 7.45am.

The fire completely razed the LKS Plastic Pipe Sdn Bhd factory, which spanned approximately 85 by 180 square feet and was housed in a non-permanent structure.

Firefighters used two 300-foot hose lines with three nozzles from two engines, drawing water from an open source with additional support from a water tanker. An excavator from a nearby factory was also used to clear heavy debris to aid in extinguishing remaining embers.

Other agencies present at the scene included four police officers and five personnel from Sarawak Energy Berhad.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
