Over RM876,000 in compounds issued to employers as S’wak Labour Dept inspects 3,514 premises statewide

KUCHING, June 30: The Sarawak Labour Department (JTK) has issued a total of RM876,000 in compounds to employers following inspections of 3,514 premises across the State as of May this year.

According to a TVS news report, JTK director Awang Raduan Awang Omar highlighted that 390 offence notifications were issued under the Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Chapter 76), while the department’s state offices received and handled 729 labour-related cases during the period.

“A total of 563 compounds amounting to RM876,000 were issued, while employee compensation recorded from January to May 2025 reached RM31.47 million,” he said during the Ministry of Human Resources’ Customer Engagement Day and the LGRAP 6.0 Flag-Off Ceremony held here today.

Awang Raduan noted that the Labour Governance, Risk, and Assurance Programme (LGRAP) 6.0 focuses on raising awareness of amendments to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance effective May 1, along with educating the public on workers’ rights and employers’ responsibilities.

“The programme also aims to highlight the risks of working abroad, enforcement of the minimum wage, implementation of the Self-Employment and Housewives Social Security Schemes, and job scam prevention,” he added.

LGRAP 6.0 runs from June 30 to July 6, featuring a convoy of 21 four-wheel-drive vehicles covering key destinations including Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, and Lawas. — DayakDaily
