274 strata devt in Sarawak urged to set up Joint Management Body by year end or face compounds

KUCHING, May 23: The remaining 274 strata developments that have yet to call for their first annual general meeting (AGM) to form the Joint Management Body (JMB) have until Dec 31 this year to do so.

Deputy Premier-cum-Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Commissioner of Buildings (COB) will start to issue compounds to any developers and strata developments failing to do so effective Jan 1, 2024.


He said 74 developments have successfully conducted their first AGMs to establish the JMB to manage and maintain their strata development.

“All this 74 JMB has been registered with the COB under Section 18(2) of Strata Management Ordinance (SMO) 2019.

“The remaining 274 strata development are still in the process of submitting the Strata Subdivision Plan (SSP) as required under Section 7, SMO 2019 before they can call for the first AGM of the JMB,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said as of May 19, there are 586 strata developments approved and completed in Sarawak.

Of those, he said 238 developments have been entered under the registry of the Land and Survey Department (L&S) Register as having a Management Corporation (MC) being established under Section 21 of the Strata (Subsidiary Titles) Ordinance 2019 (SSTO 2019). — DayakDaily
