KUCHING, July 31: More than 9,600 participants have already signed up for Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2025, setting the stage for the city to break two Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) titles: ‘Largest Participation in a Zumba Event’ and ‘Largest Participation in a Glow-in-the-Dark Zumba Event’ on Aug 2.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng revealed that the milestone 10th edition of the annual fitness event, to be held from 7pm to 10.30pm at the State Hockey Stadium, will be the most ambitious yet as the city aims to make history.
“This year’s event is a special one, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kuching Zumba Fiesta, we are also making an ambitious move to break two Malaysia Book of Records titles,” Wee told a press conference today.
“As of today, we are excited to report that over 9,600 participants have registered. This puts us in a strong position to break both records. But registration alone is not enough. To all who have signed up, we need you to show up on the day to help Kuching make history.”
The event, which promotes Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 for good health and well-being, aims to foster active living through fun, inclusive fitness.
To elevate the experience, MBKS has arranged a high-powered sound system and large LED screens for better visibility and engagement across the stadium. Yellow glow sticks will also be distributed to participants as part of the glow-in-the-dark element of the record attempt.
Eleven fitness studios and teams will keep the energy flowing throughout the night. They are Shake It Squad, Angels Fitsquad, Flylab Athletics, Fitstarzs Dance Crew, Exhilarate Fitness Studio, ZINs Fabulous, Honey Dance and Fitness Studio, Amber Warriors Fitness Studio, Choco Fitness Studio, Reggae Fitness Studio, and Kelab Sukan Kecergasan Kota Samarahan Studio.
Participation is free, and those interested can still register via the iPeople App.
To further fire up the crowd, a lucky draw will be held with attractive prizes including two return flight tickets to Kunming, China sponsored by Ming Ming Travel Sdn Bhd, two Make 27.5 mountain bikes, two Voice Vector 27.5 mountain bikes, and 15 electrical appliances.
Wee also expressed gratitude to event sponsors. KTS Group is the main sponsor, contributing RM50,000. Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd is the co-sponsor with RM10,000. Gatorade is the official beverage partner, supplying over 10,000 bottles.
“Kuching Zumba Fiesta is more than just a fitness event. It is a celebration of health, happiness and community spirit,” Wee said.
