Over 500 participate in Lion Dance Parade at Kuching Lion Dance Festival 2024

KUCHING, July 27: Over 500 participants took part in the Lion Dance Parade as part of the Lion Dance Festival 2024 held in the city centre last night.

The participants, forming 30 contingents, gathered at the Padungan Arch near the White Cat Statue and along Ban Hock Road as early as 6.30pm for the event.

At 7pm, the parade began, winding through Chinatown on Jalan Padungan, passing Hilton Hotel, and continuing to Jalan Main Bazaar before reaching the final destination — Kuching Waterfront, where the opening ceremony took place.

The total distance covered by the parade was 2 kilometres.

The highlight of the parade was when each contingent showcased a performance before the main stage.

Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Snowdan Lawan, was the guest-of-honour (GOH) during the parade.

The inaugural festival aims to boost tourism, cultural, and economic activities in Sarawak, especially in Kuching.

Activities include exhibitions, handicraft sales, mural and graffiti drawing demonstrations, lion head making demonstrations, the lion dance parade, lion dance performances, Chinese musical instrument demonstrations, lion dance talks, and a Lion Dance Concert on July 27. — DayakDaily
