Over 300 SMART towers operational in Sarawak, enhancing rural telecommunication

KUCHING, May 10: A total of 307 Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) towers are currently operational across Sarawak, facilitating connectivity through the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN).

According to a statement by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) Berhad today, out of these towers, 251 also offer 4G mobility services, significantly enhancing internet accessibility in rural areas.

The SMART project is scheduled to be fully completed by Q2 of 2025.

Comparatively, the construction period for towers under Federal Government National Digital Network (Jendela) initiative also takes at least 18 months.

“These towers are actively being implemented at various stages and are also expected to be completed by the end of 2025.,” it said.

SEDC said they also have began to equip SMART towers with telecommunication equipment in stages. — DayakDaily
