KUCHING, March 9: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has voiced his hopes for the swift resolution of unreliable Internet connection and limited bandwidth issues in rural schools.

He noted that the Education Ministry’s (MoE) recently-launched Digital Education Policy supports and encourages the use of technology amongst the pupils in an integrated, responsible and ethical manner.

This, he said, is in line with the Sarawak Digital Economic Action Plan 2030 where the State is developing an ecosystem that will attract emergent industries focusing on a data bank of international standards, creation of digital content as well as the upgrading of digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Indeed, both the Digital Education Policy and the Sarawak Digital Economic Plan are aligned with the aspirations of the national curriculum to have all pupils and teachers acquire and master digital literacy.

“In relation to this, I hope that the issues of effective connectivity in our schools like unreliable internet connections and limited bandwidth cab be resolved soon, especially schools in logistically-challenged locations,” he said in a text of speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during a welcoming dinner in conjunction with the 2024 National-level ‘Gerakan Massa: #terimakasihcikgu’ event held at Hikmah Exchange here last night.

Among those present were Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, MoE secretary-general Datuo Indera Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi, director-general of Education Azman Adnan, and Sarawak Education Department director Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad. — DayakDaily
