KUCHING, Jan 1: Over 2,000 runners participated in the New Year Resolution Charity Run 2024 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) complex compound here today.
Organised by City Jogger’s Club (CJC) with 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta as the main sponsor, the event was divided into two categories, namely the 7km Fun Run and the 3km Fun Run.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng who officiated at the event, expressed his amazement at participants for waking up early to join the programme when there were so many entertaining events held the previous night (Dec 31, 2023) in conjunction with the New Year celebration.
“These people came at 6am in the morning to run for charity and to show their love and care for the city, so these are the things that we wish to encourage.
“On behalf of MBKS, I would like to apologise if there are any shortcomings and things that we were not able to fulfil for everybody but for this year, we will try our best to serve our Kuchingites here,” he said.
Wee also said that Kuching city folk are equally responsible in taking care of the city apart from MBKS and therefore, he hoped that the general public would go through proper channels to get the council’s attention about its shortfalls.
At the event, Wee also presented the charity funds collected to six organisations, namely Kuching Palliative Association, Persatuan Cerebral Palsy Bahagian Kuching Dan Samarahan (Wishesland), Mental Health Association of Sarawak, Kuching Autistic Association Resource And Education Centre, The Salvation Army, Children And Youth Care Centre, and Sarawak Scout Council (Lot 51). Each organisation received RM5,000 each. — DayakDaily
