KUCHING, Oct 29: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has urged more companies, particularly those operating in industrial and logistics hubs, to contribute to road safety improvements through partnerships with technical agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR).
He said road safety should not be viewed solely as the Government’s responsibility, stressing that industry players could also contribute resources and expertise to make roads safer for the community.
“Our roads are our shared responsibility. When every party cares, more improvements can be realised for the safety of the people,” he said in a Facebook post following the launch of the Westports–JKR Klang Road Safety Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative.
The initiative focuses on enhancing safety along Route FT181 in Pulau Indah. The completed enhancements include 60 rumble strips, 200 road studs, 700 solar-powered road studs and three sets of emergency crash barriers.
Nanta said while enhancements such as rumble strips, road studs and clearer lane markings, might seem minor, they could make a significant difference to the safety of road users.
He also pointed out that while the works did not involve large-scale construction, targeted measures were vital, particularly in areas with heavy vehicle movements and daily traffic involving industrial workers and the local community. – DayakDaily
