Opposition supporters in Batu Kitang urged to vote for DAP, not split votes

KUCHING, Dec 13: Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen calls on opposition supporters in Batu Kitang constituency to concentrate and cast their votes for DAP instead of other opposition parties.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference here today, Chong said there would be a four-cornered fight in N13 Batu Kitang between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Democratic Action Party (DAP).

According to him, GPS itself is already a formidable opponent with its candidate Lo Khere Chiang, and DAP candidate for the constituency Abdul Aziz Isa stand the best chance of winning against Lo, among all the three opposition candidates.

ā€œAs such I calls on the supporters of the opposition to concentrate and focus their vote on DAP, and not split among the opposition parties.

ā€œIf he (Abdul Aziz) is in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), it will be a good addition to the strength of DAP, and add on the multiracial element of the opposition in DUN, and that is important,ā€ he said.

Chong noted this is not the first time that Batu Kitang has see more than a three-cornered fight. In 2016, Batu Kitang saw a five-cornered fight between DAP, Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) and two independent candidates.

He also highlighted in that five-cornered fight, three candidates lost their deposit, and Abdul Aziz under a DAP ticket came very close against Lo.

ā€œIt was due to the split in votes, one of the main reasons that he could not capture Batu Kitang,ā€ he explained. ā€” DayakDaily
