A six-member team of firefighters from the Bau Station, including the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue (STORM) Unit, was mobilised alongside five personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM), three officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and three members of the public.

The team, accompanied by the victim’s relatives, proceeded to the suspected incident site at noon.

Upon arrival, a firefighter and three members of the public ventured into the interior to pinpoint the exact location where the victim is believed to be buried.

However, after 30 minutes, they were forced to retreat due to worsening weather conditions.

The Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a report on the missing Indonesian man from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching at 5.23 pm on Aug 23, prompting the launch of a search and rescue (SAR) operation the following day (Aug 24).

The missing individual, identified as Yoga Anggiska, is a resident of Kerinci, Indonesia. He is believed to be buried under a landslide while illegally mining for gold in the restricted area of Gunung Tabai in Bau since Aug 13.

The Bomba Sarawak was called in on Aug 27 to assist in the operation to extricate the body from the landslide. — DayakDaily
