KUCHING, Oct 19: Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducts regular advocacy operations in the state regarding the installation of tinted windows on vehicles to ensure that vehicle owners and drivers follow the rules.
The advocacy operation targets private vehicles, commercial vehicles, and public service vehicles, TVS reported.
According to the news report, State JPJ director Norizan Jili stated in a statement issued today that through the advocacy, JPJ enforcement officers will provide clear information about the correct and allowed visible light transmission (VLT) set out in the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991 (Amendment 2019).
Norizan explained that the VLT rate for tinted windows is permitted under Submethod (1), which is 70 per cent for the front windscreen, Submethod (3), which is 50 per cent for front side windows, and Method 12(1)(b), which is zero per cent for rear side windows and rear screen.
He added that the installation of tinted mirrors that do not meet the prescribed VLT rate can be hazardous for drivers and other road users, particularly in low-light conditions or heavy rain. This is because driving becomes significantly more challenging when the windscreen is excessively dark, making it difficult to see.
The Sarawak JPJ director further emphasised that all vehicle owners and drivers in this State must consistently adhere to the regulations outlined in the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991 (Amendment 2019) in order to prioritise safety for everyone.
On Tuesday evening (Oct 17), Norizan took part in the Tinted Windows Advocacy Operation alongside the JPJ Sibu Branch and JPJ Sarikei Branch. The operation was held at Jalan Teluk Assan, near Lanang Bridge.
More information on the installation of tinted windows on vehicles can be obtained from the JPJ Malaysia portal.
Also present during the operation were Sibu JPJ Enforcement Division chief Nurul Fairezzah Safri and Sarikei JPJ Branch chief Yusuf Andan. — DayakDaily
