KUCHING, June 29: A local man in his 50s, a trader in Miri, lost RM300,000 to a non-existent online investment scheme.
In a statement, Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said that in early January this year, the victim came across an investment offer on Facebook by a company known as ‘XGI Horizon Construction Sdn Bhd’.
The victim, interested in the ‘offer’, was then connected with an unknown individual, who is the suspect posing as an investment agent for the company.
To further entice the victim, the suspect promised him high returns in a short period, with profits ranging from 30 to 100 per cent.
Following that, the victim was instructed to conduct several bank transactions amounting to RM300,000 to an account provided by the suspect.
The victim realised he was scammed when the suspect continued to request additional payments, prompting him to lodge a police report. — DayakDaily
