KUCHING, Dec 10: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei says a delay in investigation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) into an earlier report he had lodged in August had resulted in the online attacks he has been facing recently.

He said he brought the matter to Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

“I have brought this to Gobind Singh to ask MCMC to conduct investigations effectively and diligently because the (investigation) delay in the MCMC August report had resulted in this group of people becoming too much (getting bolder).

“Until now, I have not gotten the report as to the identification of the person who is behind my August (police) report. So it is a delay and I have brought (the matter) to YB Gobind Singh,” said Wong during a press conference at the Kuching Police One Stop Centre today after lodging six police reports against four social media pages and one news website for alleged defamation and slander.

He claimed these incidents did not happen by chance but was part of a plan targeting him.

“It does not happen by chance. It happened by a plan. I have been targeted. I would describe this as character assassination against me with a simple motive to bring me down so that I have a bad reputation to face the next state election.

“The motive is clear. There is a political purpose to go against me personally. It is something disgusting and I am not worried about my reputation but I am worried about the safety of my family as the place I am staying at has had its pictures taken and the housing estate where I am staying has had its pictures taken,” said Wong.

He said he had to make a police report because of the safety of his family.

Wong had in August this year lodged a police report against a social media page which alleged that he had gained unjustifiable wealth where his property and his cars were worth millions of ringgit.

Wong said today he had lodged a police report in August but he was told only this afternoon that it is MCMC which is conducting the investigation as to find out the person behind the social media page.

“This group of persons (behind the earlier allegations), I believe is the same group whom I lodged police reports against today,” said Wong.
