One Sibu medic down with Covid-19, state tally up to 223

KUCHING, Feb 27: One healthcare personnel in Sibu is down with Coronavirus today, bringing the cumulative number of infection among medics since Feb 9 up to 223 statewide.

According to the statement by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, no other districts reported any positive cases among healthcare providers.


Yesterday (Feb 26), no such cases were registered throughout the state, but earlier on Feb 25, there were three in Sibu and two in Kuching.

The tally started on Feb 9 with State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing disclosing that there were a total of 162 cases of Covid-19 infections involving medical personnel between January to Feb 8.

On the same day (Feb 9), four new cases were reported, followed by three more cases on Feb 10, which added up to a total of 169 cases of healthcare workers being infected with the virus.

Subsequently, the number of cases involving medical workers continue to be detected almost on a daily basis with four cases on Feb 11, one on Feb 12, four on Feb 13, one each on Feb 14 and Feb 15, eight on Feb 16, two on Feb 18, one on Feb 19, two on Feb 20, four on Feb 21 and eight on Feb 22.

On Feb 23, zero cases among frontliners were found but the next day on Feb 24, there was a surge of 12 cases, all from Sibu District alone. — DayakDaily
