KUCHING, June 16: A man was killed while two others were injured in a road accident involving two cars along Jalan Bintulu-Bakun this afternoon.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the accident occurred at around 2.46pm and involved a Proton Saga and a Proton Saga FLX.
Firefighters from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene, located about 153km from the station, and arrived at 4.40pm.
Upon arrival, they found one male victim, identified as 48-year-old Jok Jalong, trapped in the driver’s seat of the Proton Saga.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry (KKM) paramedics.
Firefighters extricated the deceased and handed the body over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, a female passenger from the same car and a male driver from the second vehicle sustained injuries.
Both were rushed to Bintulu Hospital by ambulance before the fire team arrived.
The team later conducted cleanup works and ensured the area was safe before returning to the station at 5.20pm.
The operation, led by PBK I Eric Wilson anak Jutin, involved 11 personnel using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and KKM. — DayakDaily
