KUCHING, July 27: A fire broke out at a landfill in Lingga on Sunday (July 26), affecting an estimated one hectare of the disposal site, with no casualties reported.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 8.02pm, and firefighters from the Sri Aman station were deployed.
Upon arrival at 8.52am after travelling 49km, firefighters confirmed that the landfill was on fire, with the blaze estimated to have spread across approximately one hectare.
Bomba said off-duty personnel were called in to stand by at the station to support the ongoing operation. At 11pm, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle carrying four additional firefighters was deployed to assist with firefighting efforts.
Firefighters battled the blaze using two 200-foot hose lines and two nozzles, drawing water from an open water source with a portable pump.
At 6.39am today, it was reported that firefighting efforts were still ongoing. — DayakDaily
