One dead, five others injured in two separate accidents in Sarikei

KUCHING, Dec 5: A 29-year-old male driver was killed while two others were seriously injured after being involved in a road accident along Jalan Bakong in Sarikei, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue (Bomba) operation centre, in a statement, said they received a call from the Malaysia Emergency Responses Services (EMRS 999) regarding the incident at 4.18pm and firefighters from Bomba Sarikei together with Bomba Bintangor were deployed to the scene.

“Operation commander reported that the road accident involved a sedan vehicle colliding with a passenger bus and three people were trapped inside the sedan vehicle.

“Firefighters then proceed to carry out their operation to free all three victims, who were pinned inside using rescue tools.

“However, the driver was pronounced dead at the location by the medical personnel from Ministry of Health (MOH), while the other two were seriously injured and were brought Sarikei Hospital for further treatment,” it said.

It was noted that the bus driver and the 15 passengers were unhurt in the incident.

In a separate case, one adult male, one adult female and a teenager suffered minor injuries after their vehicle plunged into a ravine along Sarikei-Bintangor road today.

According to Bomba operation centre, they received a call regarding the incident from MERS 999 at 9.25am and responded with a team of firefighters from Bomba Sarikei.

One of the victims was given initial medical treatment at the scene along Sarikei-Bintangor road before being brought to the hospital.

“Operation commander at the location reported that a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle had plunged into a ravine at Kilometre 13, along Sarikei-Bintangor road, with three victims trapped inside the vehicle, and were rescued by firefighters using Rescue Tools,” it said.

The statement added all three victims only suffered minor injuries and were brought to the hospital for further treatment using MERS 999 and MOH ambulance. –DayakDaily.
