Oil tanker truck catches fire on Miri-Bintulu Coastal road

MIRI, Aug 16: A 50-year-old driver of an oil tanker truck carrying petrol and diesel fuel escaped uninjured after the truck burst into flames on late Monday evening on the Miri-Bintulu Coastal road, near Tradewind Telong Suai.

According to Zone 6 Acting Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee, the fire started on the left rear tire of the tanker.


Prior to the incident, the truck was heading for Miri from Bintulu carrying 12,000 litres of diesel and 16,000 litres of RON95 petrol.

A team of firemen from Batu Niah Bomba Station were deployed to the scene after responding to a distress call at 5.50pm and arrived there around 40 minutes later.

The operation started immediately and they managed to bring the fire under control at 6.50pm.

“The operation ended at 7pm,” Nizam said. — DayakDaily
