KUCHING, March 29: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced an offshore worker to a fine of RM3,000 for throwing a can of beer at a police officer.
Ronny Paul Litan, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 353 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced him to a fine of RM3,000 or in default to imprisonment of six months.
He was charged with assaulting police officer ASP Omar Anis while the victim was carrying out his duty as a public servant, at an open area in Taman Malihah, at about 2.50pm on January 30, 2022.
According to the brief facts of the case, a team of police officers from Padawan Police District were carrying out a raid in Taman Malihah where illegal cock-fighting was taking place.
While the police were about to arrest the accused, he acted aggressively by throwing a beer can at the police and fleeing the scene.
The accused then admitted that he was drunk during that time and threw a beer can towards the victim and caused hurt to the forehead and eyebrow of the victim.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
