Occupational and Environmental Medicine Academy pays courtesy call on MBKS mayor ahead of Asian Congress on Occupational Health 2026

KUCHING, April 21: The Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM) paid a courtesy visit to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng today, as preparations gear up for the 24th Asian Congress on Occupational Health (ACOH) 2026.

The congress, themed “Shaping a Sustainable Future: Global Perspectives on Occupational Health,” will take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from Aug 5 to 8, 2026.

Led by AOEMM president Dr Abu Hasan Samad, the delegation included committee members from Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Thailand, reflecting the strong regional collaboration behind the international event.

According to a press release, the meeting touched on key occupational and environmental health issues, especially in light of changing global challenges.

Wee welcomed the delegation and expressed pride in Kuching being chosen as the host city. He highlighted the importance of strengthening health frameworks to build sustainable and resilient communities.

He also encouraged participation from government agencies, industry players, academics and health professionals, noting that the congress would serve as a crucial platform for knowledge-sharing and international collaboration.

ACOH 2026 is expected to draw participants from across Asia and beyond, focusing on workplace safety, environmental health, disease prevention, and sustainable development in occupational health practices. – DayakDaily
